WALPOLE - New Holland Honey Eater

WWW
That's Walpole!
Wet...Wintry...Wonderful

On the southern coast 450 kilometres south of Perth, Walpole's a sleep little town with a  population of about 500. According to one local 'and an annual tourist population of 500,000!'. He may have been exaggerating just a tad because Walpole doesn't have the same facilities or tourism pull of nearby Denmark or Albany.

Walpole Inlet - Western Australia

A few years ago I flew a Cessna 172 over Walpole at 1000 feet  and was impressed by the rugged natural beauty and swirling pattern of the great southern edge, the Walpole and Nornalup Inlets. Walpole is also home to Gary Muir and his famous WOW cruises. Gary is renowned for his historical and environmental know-how and especially for his ability to entertain and enthrall audiences on his award-winning WOW inlet cruises.

New Holland Honeyeater
We're currently encamped in one of my photography student's homes fifty metres above the Walpole inlet. The panaorama above is shot with Fujifilm's tiny new X10 that has an auto pan and auto stitch facility. Its incredibly simple to use and no Photoshop required! The New Holland Honeyeater I shot with a Nikon D700 with a  trusty old 70-400mm lens through the lounge window! Yes, a bit of armchair photography never goes astray.
